I expect that nobody will believe that they are hiking to an
industrial site when they make the trek to this cache. The hike
into this place is a fun one. It follows the course of Dunbar Creek
on some ATV trails which are sometimes hard to follow. It will be
necessary to ford the creek several times so be prepared to get
wet. Center Furnace is one of those old stone blast furnaces that
made iron. The remains that you will see are almost two centuries
old. Center Furnace was built in 1815 and produced iron until 1830.
The cache is located just above the portal of one of the iron ore
mines.
