Were not looking for fine silver pieces that have been
restored, I'm referring to the lake. Silver Lake has recently
been revamped. The aquatic life in the lake was overrun by
non-native species. So the Wisconsin DNR and other groups got
together to fix the lake. It has been done mostly with
volunteers. They started by revamping the way Silver Creek
flows in and out of the lake. Then they killed everything
(fish and algae) in the lake and cleaned it out. In 2004 and
2005 they plan to reintroduce the native species of plants and
fish to the lake and restore it to its former glory. This is a
beautiful county park that is adjacent to Silver Lake College.
The land was donated to the county by the Franciscan Sisters
of Christian Charity for public access. Silver Lake Park has
grills, tables, benches, a boat launch, bathrooms, and will
have some good fishing. A historical marker, located in Silver
Lake Park, reminds visitors that Highway 151 follows the trail
of the Winnebago Indian Tribe.
