The cache is a simple bison tube that is located inside a hollow tree.
Large hollow trees like this provide invaluable refuge for native animals. Hollows like this one are caused by a combination of forces, including wind, fire, rain and insect attack. Hollows of this size do not appear in eucalypts until they are at least 200 years old. To understand how important tree hollows are to native animals, in Australia 29 species of amphibians, 78 species of reptiles, 111 species of bird and 86 species of mammals use tree hollows. 100 of these species are considered endagered because of the removal of forrests that have hollow trees.
Watch out for snakes. Do not attempt on days of extreme bushfire risk.
