Geocache Description:

The listed coordinate is not to the actual cache but takes you to the trailhead. The cache container is a
huge 20mm Ammo Can that's stuffed with LOTS of goodies.

Click for Stonyford, California Forecast

This is a very long hard hike and it should
be attempted by experienced hikers in good health.
You will be on the trail over 10 hours so start early and make sure you
have a flashlight with you just in case you have to find your way back in the dark.
Parts of the Deafy Glade Trail are vague so have a good topo map, compass
and the knowledge to use them in case you have a problem with your GPS.

PLEASE READ

Backcountry safety

One way profile from the Deafy Glade Trailhead.

The best time to hike Snow Mountain is from the middle of June through early October.
In the winter the roads may be closed and avalanche conditions may exist.

Early in the spring the South Fork of Stony Creek can be three or more feet deep which
can make for a tough crossing and there could be plenty of snow at the higher elevations.

If you plan to stay the night at the summit or along the
trail, be sure you have a
campfire permit and that there are no fire restrictions in place.

There are no services beyond Stonyford, cellular or otherwise.

Make some preparations before you take on this momentus hike by checking out
current conditions , black bears .

In order to find the cache you will also have to find Wounded Knee and Limpy’s caches,
both are hidden in the Snow Mtn back country, each has half the coords to SMC.

You are also required to take a photo of yourself on the summit
of Snow Mtn East next to the summit log.

And just to make sure it's enough of a challenge, the cache container has two
padlocks that will require picking.

Don't forget to grab these other caches while you're in the area:

Mill Creek Micro, Stonyford, Don't Mention It, East Peak

As of 4-4-09 we can no longer require you to take a picture of yourself
on top of Snow Mtn East at the summit log, per new Geocaching Guidelines.

If you finish the challenge without the East Peak photo, we will add your
Geocaching name with a link to your profile in the new Snow Mtn. Challenge
"ALMOST" section, and instead of a photo there will be a BIG
*
(So take the photo and avoid the slacker section.)
