What is a “Dönerstag”?

From the Geocaching Blog:

Dönerstag began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around the country all at the same time. The tradition caught on!

These special events are held each year on a Thursday. In German, this makes the name “Dönerstag” a pun: The German word for Thursday is “Donnerstag.” Kebab translates to “Döner.”

Last year, over 6000 players attended 233 Dönerstag events. The events were held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

How can I participate?

This year our friends at Groundspeak have decided to make it a full on global event to kick off Signal the Frogs® worldwide adventures.  Anyone attending an event on April 13th 2017 gets the souvenir.   As I happen to have a connection with a local German deli I thought what better place to hold a German themed event? 

This is a midday event so stop over on your lunch break for some tasty German cuisine and catch up with other local souvenir hunters.  Sorry they don’t have kebabs but I am told they will have some other tasty options available for us. 

I’ll have some door prizes and with any luck some new geocaches.
