The Donkey Pump?? Traditional Cache

This location reminds me of the Donkey Pumps you see in the states - we're not really sure what it is for, or what purpose it might have served in the past. If you can shed light upon its function then that would be great.

This was placed as a bonus cache for the more adventurous cacher who ventures to Cairnsmore of Carsphairn Summit but it is within easy striking distance from the public road for everyone and the walk provides sufficient height gain to benefit from the fine views of the Glenkens and the Rhinns of Kells.
