J.W. Wright was responsible for the title of nearby town of Avonsleigh, which originally refered to the locality at the junction of Emerald-Macclesfield Road and Belgrave-Gembrook Road, but has since been applied to the surrounding area.

Wright purchased the land in this area from S. A. Koenig around 1900 and at the junction of the two roads, established a guest house called Avonsleigh House. In 1904 a siding called "Wright's Siding" was built on the new narrow gauge railway that is now known as Puffing Billy. This enabled travellers to easily access Avonsleigh House via a short walk from the siding.

The whole area of Wright's Forest was named after J.M. Wright, considered to be the founding father of the nearby town of Avonsleigh.

Be aware, there are abandoned mine shafts in this area! Watch out for snakes. Do not attempt on days of extreme bushfire risk. Be aware, it is slippery in the mud!
