Geocache Description:

Lower Alabama Meet and Eat

Anyone interested in Geocaching and meeting your fellow cachers and living in the coastal regions of Alabama, Mississippi, or Northwest Florida is invited to the Lower Alabama Meet and Greet which will be held starting at 12:30PM May 10th, 2008 at the Pavilion in Lagan Park, Mobile, Alabama. Since the weather in May is usually nice we decided the move the Meet and Greet outside however, because Mobile is according to Guinness World Records the wettest city in the continental United States we will have the shelter of the Pavilion in case of rain... And please remember that just before the Meet and Greet the Gulf Coast World Wide Flash Mob Event will be held in the same park from high noon until 12:15PM a mere fifteen minutes but I promise you it will be fifteen minutes you will never forget. Click on the highlighted link for more information on the Gulf Coast World Wide Flash Mob Event .

Put faces to the names in the logbooks, swap travel bugs and geocoins, tell tall tales, etc. There will be a logbook to sign. And this time I promise I'll remember to bring a log book!

As an added treat for you new to Geocaching or if you from out of town there are 11 caches within a mile of the event site and one a letterbox cache is less than 500 feet from the event site and another 11 await you on the nearby University of South Alabama Campus.

There will be no raffle at our Meet and Eat this May, the way we will give away our door prizes will be a bit unique. We have created a Meet and Eat Event Cache Run. It will not be constrained to some of the rules that Groundspeak has in place. The list will not be published on the Groundspeak site and will not counted toward your cache count.

We will hide approx 12-15 caches, then create a .GPX file with all the caches in it. This will be available to all on Friday night.

Don't run out to FTF all the caches the night before the event, because FTF will not get you a prize in most or all cases.

Just as an example: the 6th to log the #7 cache will win a specific prize. Well you could go out the morning before it would give you more time to chat. So now you know that we plan to make you work for your prizes this time....lol. At approx 2PM the caches will be collected and the winners will be announced. If one of the caches get muggled we can't award a winner of that prize so stealth will be required in this busy park. All caches will be in and around the park so driving will not be required during the event cache run.

From Mississippi: Take I-10 East till exit 20, and turn right onto I-65 North go approximately 5 miles and exit 5A turn left onto Springhill Ave. Go 2.3 miles and turn right onto Flournoy Drive and you will see the Pavilion in the distance.

From Florida: Take I-10 West till exit 20, and turn right onto I-65 North go approximately 5 miles and exit 5A turn left onto Springhill Ave. Go 2.3 miles and turn right onto Flournoy Drive and you will see the Pavilion in the distance.

If you are considering attending, please add this event to your watchlist in case any information changes.

The location for the Greet and Meet is under the pavilion please bring your own chairs. Food and drink are prohibited on the pavilion site. However, feel free to bring some sodas and a bite to eat and spread a blanket and lay out your picnic lunch on the grounds surrounding the pavilion.. It goes without saying alcohol is strictly prohibited within the entire boundaries of the park... The City of Mobile has a standard policy of charging twenty-five dollars to hold an event at the pavilion and while an admission fee will not be required to attend the Meet and Eat (Greet) a jar will be available to accept small donations ( a buck or two or just some pocket change) to offset the cost of the pavilion. Thank you!
