The
Critical Mass Cache Bash 2006 is taking place on Saturday 22
April 2006 at the Burghfield AWE Social Club, James Lane,
Burghfield, Reading. It is a follow on from the CITO event (Cryptik Clean Up, Reading)
being held that day at Burghfield and is intended as a get
together for people taking part in that to grab some drinks and
food. However, everyone is welcome. You can attend either or
both events. We plan to kick off at 1.30pm and go through til
3.30pm.
Food will
consist of a 'basket style meal' and of course the bar will be
open!!
We need a rough
idea of numbers and who want's what for food! Please email us
via our gc.com profile and let us know how many adults and children
in your party, and whether you would prefer chicken or scampi for
the adults, chicken nuggets or sausages for the children. If there
are any specific dietary requirements (veggies, etc) please let us
know immediately so that alternative meals can be arranged. No
deposits are needed. Adult meals will be £5 and children £2.50. No
need to book puds in advance - they will be about £1.50.
Unfortunately dogs are not permitted in the club house, but there
are plenty of picnic tables in the garden just outside, and the
weather was warm enough last year for people to sit out.
So as not to detract too heavily from the CITO event, there will be
no new caches set for this event. There are however several
excellent caches around (please click Nearest Caches link below),
most of which were set by the Critical Mass Inc. (aka Ratty &
Son). These caches are now being watched over by The Cache Hoppers
since Ratty & Son are no longer in the area.
Please log your
intention to attend, and add this cache to your watchlist so you
don't miss out on any updates.
Lots of lovely
TB's and Geocoins please for swapsies!
There are quite
a few cachers from "up north" heading down for this and the CITO
events. They've organised a breakfast cache event for Sunday 23
April, details are here .
COMPETITION!!! Malpas Wanderer is unable to attend
the events due to work commitments. He is willing to offer the
chance to win an unactivated England Geocoin for a sense of social
inclusion. Please mail him through his gc.com profile your team
members names for entry. All childrens names are entered free,
adults must submit a caching story. You don't have much time
- entries must be in by 06:00pm Thursday 20th April. The winner
will be randomly selected and will need to collect the coin from a
hidden location within 3 miles of venue which will be notified by
email.

A little nugget of
info for you:
Critical Mass?
Critical, sub-critical, and super-critical mass all refer
to the chain reactions that occur in fissionable material--a
material in which nuclei can shatter or "fission" when struck by a
passing neutron. When this nuclear fuel is at critical mass, each
nucleus that fissions directly induces an average of one subsequent
fission. This situation leads to a steady chain reaction in the
fuel: the first fission causes a second fission, which causes a
third fission, and so on. Steady chain reactions of this sort are
used in nuclear reactors.
When the
fuel is below critical mass, there aren't quite enough nuclei
around to keep the chain reactions proceeding steadily and each
chain gradually dies away. While such a sub-critical mass of fuel
continues to experience chain reactions, they aren't
self-sustaining and depend on natural radioactive decay to restart
them.
When the fuel is above critical
mass, there are more than enough nuclei around to sustain the chain
reactions. In fact, each chain reaction grows exponentially in size
with the passage of time. Since each fission directly induces more
than one subsequent fission, it takes only a few generations of
fissions before there are astronomical numbers of nuclei fissioning
in the fuel. Explosive chain reactions of this sort occur in
nuclear weapons. |
