This Cache series is based on my all-time favorite band,
Pink Floyd, and their landmark album,
The Dark Side of the Moon
(DSotM)
DSotM is a concept album that deals with the pressures of modern
life (money, time, violence, etc.) building up and leading to
insanity. That sounds pretty grim and pessimistic, but the album is
full of beautiful music and singing; brilliant, philosophical
lyrics; and numerous sound effects and spoken word snippets that
enhance each song. The idea of "inevitable insanity and death"
seems bleak, but an optimistic message can also be taken from the
lyrics that we have a choice and can enjoy life as it comes and
choose our own path, instead of succumbing to the pressures and
leaving our lives to fate.
The Dark Side of the Moon spent 741 consecutive weeks on the
USA-based Billboard 200 album chart, the longest duration in
history (Guinness Book of World Records). It is also the fifth
highest selling album globally of all time, selling more than forty
million copies.
If you own DSotM, go listen to it. If you are a Rock-n-Roll fan
and don't own it, go get it and listen to it over and over. I don't
think you will be dissapointed.
Check out The Dark Side of the Rainbow to
see what happens when you combine the DSotM album with The
Wizard of Oz movie.
