Geocache Description:

This Letterbox Cache was placed to coincide with GC1VR40, the 09/09/09 multi-event in Ithaca, NY.  Thanks to Vanelle and everyone else for putting it together!

The name of the cache was chosen in order to keep with the “9” theme.  The origin of the myth that cats have nine lives has been attributed to a number of different cultures and stories, but in general stems from cats’ innate swiftness and ability to escape from harrowing circumstances.  Given that geocachers often exhibit these same abilities, a cat-themed cache seemed appropriate.

The cache will bring you to part of the Ithaca College campus that is not very well-known, but is a great area for a short (or long) walk.  The container is a 4x8” lock-n-lock box.  Along with the letterbox stamp and an ink-pad, it holds a few cat-themed trade items to begin with (although all trades are welcomed).  There is also a resident coin permanently affixed to the front of the log-book. Please do not remove the stamp or the resident coin from the cache!  Also, please try to re-hide the cache well so that the muggles don't disturb it while using the trails.

While you’re out here, I encourage you to visit GC1W4B6, GC1HWQM, and GC1NNQT as well.

A NOTE ABOUT PARKING:  From 8:00am to 5:00pm on Monday through Friday, visitors are required to park in the visitors’ lot located near N42 25.268, W076 30.0131.  It is a moderately long walk from this lot to the cache.

When visiting on evenings and weekends, there is also a parking lot close to the trails where this cache is located.  While we have never had any trouble parking here on evenings and weekends while using the trails, the official policy of Ithaca College is that all visitors must park in the designated visitors’ lot at N42 25.268, W076 30.0131 unless they register their car with the Office of Public Safety at 274-3333 (don’t worry, registration is free).  The Office of Public Safety is open 24/7 and you can tell them that you would like to temporarily park in Lot L near the South Hill Natural Area to use the trails.  They will take down your license plate information to ensure that you do not get a ticket.
