WENDOVER WAMBLE! (Bucks) Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: I had a call from Da Rubber Chicken yesterday, while he was looking for this one. A couple of calls later, it was clear that it had gone. A shame, but it's time to put this cache down, humanely. I'm leading it out to behind the barn with a bolt gun...

Thanks to those who found it, and sorry to those, including DRC, who didn't. I hope you liked the walk around Wendover anyway. Nice town.

Geocache Description:

A very nice walk around the pretty little market town of Wendover which is in the shadow of the Chilterns. The trail is about a mile long and should only take 40 minutes to complete. Because of the final location extra care should be taken if caching with children. This is NOT recommended as a night cache.

WENDOVER WAMBLE! (Bucks)

St Marys Church, which you might just be visiting!

Click for original sound effects. This cache takes you around the small historic town on a short walk of discovery. You'll need to visit the following locations:

The windmill. Dont worry, it is quite armless. Click here to see a larger version of this picture N51° 45.941 / W000° 44.683. Funny place for a windmill.
This fine structure was recently up for sale and featured on the local news. I wish I knew how much it changed hands for, even though I have my heart set on a water-tower conversion. It's said to be the largest in England and was built between 1798 and 1804. The sails were removed in 1904. I know there was a big storm in 1902 and may windmills were damaged then, so the sails' removal might have been because of that. Anyway, near the windmill is a street (well, footpath) light with a number on in which you'll need to study to find the final cache. 3w0A.
The Clock Tower. Click here to see a larger version of this picture On past Wharf Road on your left - which leads to the canal where several of my caches are placed - to:
N51° 45.773 / W000° 44.470. Time on its hands.
It's Wendover's best known landmark and something of an iconic image for the town. On the side of the Clock Tower, which houses the tourist information centre and Parish Council offices, you'll discover it was built by Able Smith esq. (lord of this manor) in 18x2 and rebuilt in 18y0.
Stoned again. Click here to see a larger version of this picture Now up the High Street - with views of the town square (called 'The Manor Waste' for reasons I can't fathom) and a striking war memorial - to:
N51° 45.716 / W000° 44.556. You only sing when you're twinning.
Outside the library you'll find an unusual monument to the twinning of this town with Liffre in Brittany, over 20 years ago. It was unveiled on the 9th of May 199z.
The Cache is located at:
N51° 45.(w-z-z)(y-z)x / W000° 44.xyz

It's worth taking the path besides the library (or walking back to the clock tower and finding the Heron Path, which is also the route of the Ridgeway long distance path) rather than returning to your car as the walk is actually one of the highpoints of this cache.

Good luck and happy hunting!

The smallish (1ltr.) cache originally contained:
2x Candle
1x BMW Z3 (Aren't I generous?)
1x Party popper
1x Angel
2x Flyers
Plus the usual: Cache notice, logbook & pen.

While you're in the area, I suggest you try Dan & Pid's Fly By or my own Canalmania series of caches. They('re) both (start) within short driving or cycling distance.

A small experiment - Please feel free to rate your visit to this cache out of ten in your log.
