Canalmania 5 - GHOST TRAIN (Bucks) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: I was going to check this cache out this at the weekend, but...

"Sorry, your posting rights have been temporarily suspended. The suspension is due to end on Feb 18 2009, 11:48 PM."

Due to some 'extreme moderation' here: http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=205962 I no longer feel I'm the right person to be looking after this cache; my goals and values seem at odds with Groundspeak's -the owners of Geocaching.com- a successful web business which exists wholly on the good will of its users. My good will just dried up.

Rather than maintain it, I'm archiving it, and will remove the remains when I next pass... and can find them!

Geocache Description:

Last or first in a chain of caches along one of my favourite places to cycle, the Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal. The caches are all placed quite close to it. To encourage you to visit them all in order (in either direction) I've added a small twist... As this cache is near water please take extra care if caching with children! They're not recommended as nightcaches.

Canalmania 5 - GHOST TRAIN (Bucks)

Simply Paul, not far from the cache location.

This cache takes you closer to the Wendover end of the Arm to visit a disused railway line which once crossed the canal, joining Halton with the Wendover branchline. There's a very atmospheric walk over a bridge and away from the light into a rather spooky tunnel in the trees. Which means there's horrible cover on this one, so good luck. I hope your GPS was better at getting a signal than mine was.

If you want to do these caches in reverse order I suggest you park in Wendover, around N51° 45.945 / W000° 44.458. Of course, if you're doing these in numerical order just follow your GPS from Canalmania 4.

So get on your bike and have a happy hunt! It's worth noting I deliberately set these caches in locations far from road access. No cache and dashing here but you could find all five inside an hour if you have the leg muscles and lungs for it.

Each small (0.24ltr.) cache originally contained:
1x Candle
1x Toy car
1x Party popper
Plus the usual: Cache notice, microlog & small pen.

Things I saw while setting this cache:
You might hear the sound of gunfire. I think this is the RAFs shooting range. Click here to see a larger version of this picture The dark tunnel. Click here to see a larger version of this picture Its a well signposted route, like following a tow-path was that tricky... Click here to see a larger version of this picture

The other caches in this series are:
1 - BORDER RAID
2 - LONELY CHURCH
3 - ROTHSCHILD BRIDGE
4 - SWAN LAKE

While you're in the area, I suggest you try Dan & Pid's The Chiltern Summit or my own Wendover Wamble! cache. They're both within short driving or cycling distance.

A small experiment - Please feel free to rate your visit to this cache out of ten in your log.
