You are looking for a small bison type tube.

The Tudor Manor House

Ingatestone Hall is a stunning 16th Century manor house built by Sir William Petre, Secretary of State to four Tudor monarchs. It is still occupied by the Petre family. The house retains much of its original form - including 2 priest holes within the thickness of its walls, mullioned windows, high chimneys, crow-step gables and oak-panelled rooms. It is surrounded by ten acres of gardens, extensive lawns, a walled garden and stew pond. An avenue of ancient lime trees borders it along with a cistern in the Old Orchard in which until very recently, spring water was collected to supply the house. The house and grounds are open to the public between April and September.

The exterior of the house was featured in the 2005 TV adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel Bleak House and also appeared in an episode of the TV series Lovejoy.

The Ingatestone Hall Series

This is a circular series of 10+ caches on public footpaths (and a short stretch of road) circling around the Tudor Manor House. The caches are all traditionals and should (except perhaps No 4) be simple to find. On the way to IH1 you will pass the established traditional cache, GC2M6JV known as "XXX". Between caches IH6 and IH7 you can take a diversion to two further caches GC36FXA ("IHVD1") and GC2N6KH ("IHVD2") which lead you to Ingatestone Village where you can purchase refreshments and/or find some extra caches!

Caches No IH8, IH9 and IH10 are roadside so please take care of little ones. If you intend to link this loop to the Mamma Mia series of caches I recommend you start the Mama Mia series with MM5 (parking at the waypoint given for this series below) and end it with MM4 before starting the Ingatestone Hall loop. This will break up the amount of road walking you do in one stretch (as MM5, MM6 and MM7 are also roadside).

I've packed a relatively large number of caches into this loop, using a variety of containers, with a view to making it family friendly. Unfortunately I have no control over the nasty nettles that are attracted to geocache hides! Please take gloves with you!

The footpaths are across some beautiful countryside with some great views. From many of the caches you will see either Buttsbury or Ingatestone church in the distance. The photograph above is of Buttsbury Church.

Muggles

As is the way with lovely parts of the countryside that are close to urban areas - this is popular with dog mugglers. You will therefore need to be conscious of them throughout the series and I request that you are as discreet as possible when at the cache sites - perhaps stop to "tie your shoe laces", "refreshments" or to "take photos". It would be much appreciated if you could replace the caches as you find them with plenty of camo/stone and stickouflage! Many thanks
