Samuel Langehorne Clemens was born November 30,
1835 in Florida, Missouri. He was the 6th of 7 children, only 3 of
whom survived childhood. He has been called the "Father of American
Literature", but before becoming one of the country's most beloved
humorist and writer, he worked as a printer, a steamboat captain, a
miner and a journalist.
He traveled extensively and earned and lost
fortunes. He was the first American author to use a typewriter for
recording his work.
Though he had written what has been described as the
great American novel, his work has been the subject of controversy
and has been frequently banned from public and school
libraries. This series of caches is a tribute to his
work.
