Geocache Description:

This is a park and grab not far from a NH historical marker that commemorates a tragic occurrence for Rogers' Rangers.  There is ample parking nearby.   WATCH OUT for poison ivy.    Bring your own pen, container is too small for much more than the log.

Congrats to Copithorn for FTF!

Ca. 2006, there was a cache called "Roger's Rangers Cache" in Granby VT.  Long since archived, its description is still apt for this revival, way down river.

"Robert Rogers was a Colonial farmer recruited from New Hampshire in 1755 by the British for service in the French and Indian War (1754-1763). He recruited a unit called Rogers' Rangers in 1756, and by 1758 the British placed him in charge of all colonial Rangers companies. The Rangers wore distinctive green outfits and developed tactics called "Rogers' Ranging Rules", which the British considered unconventional. These tactics are still in use by Rangers today, including the Green Berets." (www.acidus.com)

The nearby historical marker memorializes how some of the Rangers died here of starvation, waiting for their comrades to return From Old #4 in Charlestown in 1759..  If you would like to include some more French and Indian war history in your geocaching experience, consider   GC7A3C Fort Wentworth    and  GC42MRJ Fort #3.
