Geocache Description:

This cache is not at the posted coordinates! It is within 2 miles.

Update on 12/3/16: The terrain is roughly 1.5 if you are patient, but closer to 2.5 if you are impetuous. We've split the difference and upped the terrain rating to 2.0.

Based on our GPSr readings and those of early finders and DNF-ers (sorry GO$Rs!), we share the observation that the North coords are consistent, but we got varied readings for the West. We have edited the puzzle to reflect the consensus of multiple readings, and updated Certitude accordingly.

We hope you find this groovy puzzle as Easy as 1-2-3.

  1. Perceive the theme of this puzzle, combine that with what you see on this cache page, throw in a google search or two, and, hey presto!, you'll have some numbers in a familiar format.
  2. From there, figuring the northing won’t take but a minute.
  3. To find the westing, start again, take ten and then put five hundred back.
You have everything you need to find the cache.

If you already know where the cache is, go ahead and trumpet your puzzle-solving prowess in your Found log. If you're still Lost in Space, read on...

The inspiration for this cache came from 8ManAfter’s masterfully curated puzzle cache GC2PCY8 Wicked Find! (A->B->C->?). As sometimes happens when following an incorrect idea about how to solve a puzzle, tangents and red herrings can lead to weird and interesting discoveries we’d never have made otherwise.

We’d also like to credit mswma’s cache GC40V6Y Mystery TB Hotel at the Heights, which is a superb example of how easy solving a puzzle can be when you know where to start and how impossible it can seem when you don’t. We confess to staring at this one for a long time before the lightbulb clicked on.

Finally, we have to give a shout-out to The Allen Cachers for a cache we’ve visited only on-line - GC25WQJ How Do I Solve All These $@! Puzzle Caches? - which provides an engaging and inventive tutorial for cachers who might otherwise avoid those blue question marks altogether.

Now that you have some background on what sparked this cache, are you ready to boogie down? If you’re already slipping on your caching shoes, far out!

Still puzzled? Let’s break this down into Five Easy Pieces:

  1. You may have picked up on some “retro” references in this cache description, and the puzzle is indeed about something that was part of popular culture in the past. Catkin (the puzzle-making member of Team Catkin&Golden) has fond memories of both of her parents getting involved with that something as hobbyists.
  2. Naming caches, while nowhere near as challenging as “The Naming of Cats” , can be tricky.
  3. As the realtors say, Location, Location, Location!
  4. We’re going to assume you’ve given us a big "Four, Foe" on the puzzle theme. And we’re going to continue to assume that with some frequency.
  5. Numbers. So many numbers. Like bell-bottoms and polyester leisure suits, numbers can date us. Still trying to find your starting numbers? You'll need to use the date hidden to get there!

Good luck finding the cache…….. And KEEP ON TRUCKIN’!

Many thanks to 8ManAfter and DelaneyLady for beta-testing the puzzle, and to BD1982 for their patient guidance in our formulation of the cache container!

Congratulations to DanP01824 for the FTF. Well done!

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
