Geocache Description:

Montana's Very First Webcam Cache!

After finding the Downtown U Web Cam Cache in Atlanta, GA, I decided that Montana really needed a cache like it. After a month of searching, I finally found a webcam in Montana (hosted by Flathead Online) suitable to be a cache. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

BB_Hummer Logs In to the Hall of Fame

The difficulty rating for this cache is based on the coordination necessary to complete the logging requirements. Failure to complete the logging requirements will result in your log being deleted.

To log this cache, you'll need to...

  • Have a cell phone with service coverage in Kalispell, MT.
  • Have a computer literate friend with reliable Internet access and a seperate phone line standing by ready to get a screen grab of the camera page. Check that the camera is working, and that your friend knows how to get screen grabs, before proceeding to the next step.
  • Go to the general area of the coordinates posted at the top of this page. The coordinates should be for the middle of the intersection (2nd & Main), so exercise common sense instead of your car dodging skills.
  • Call your friend and make sure they can see you in the picture.
  • When your friend is ready, wave at the camera while your friend gets a screen grab. The image updates about every 10 seconds, and your friend's reflexes might be slow, so plan on waving for a little while.
  • Feel self conscious as everybody driving by looks at you and wonders what the heck you're waving at, or waves back at you.
  • Trim the screen grab down so that it only contains the camera image, and not the whole page. Save it as a jpg file. (Get more help from all your computer literate friends if necessary.)
  • Post the image from the camera of you waving with your "Found It" log. Do not submit the log until you're ready to post the image. "Found It" logs that don't include an image of you waving will be deleted without warning.

Note to the friend at the computer: To get a screen grab, press "<alt>Print Screen", and then paste into your favorite imaging editing software. Trim the image down to just include the camera view, instead of the entire window. Save as a jpg file no larger than 99k. Then if you want to log a find for this cache yourself, get your friend to man the computer while you come down and get your own picture taken.

Bonus Option: For extra kudos, glamour, and instant entry into the KaliCam Cache Hall of Fame, bring a BIG sign that says "GEOCACHING.COM", and hold it up for the camera instead of waving.
