Geocache Description:

This is the mutagenic offspring of Breeder.

Cache larva is NOT present.

The cache is in its adult stage, and it has now become a breeding queen. The Viridian Queen. The rules for placing the cache larvae are given below.

The Viridian Queen started out as a larva from the Breeder cache. It is its fifth offspring and the second breeding female.

The cache is located to the east of Frances Ryan Park, a new park in Escondido named after a well known local historian. She and her husband owned land in the area that was known as the Ryan Oak Glen Preserve. The area is very beautiful, and I encourage you to explore. There are lots of wildflowers and a huge variety of plant species. Just be careful of the ones that make you itch or bleed. The north east side of the little valley is particularly nice despite the burned out patches from the Paradise Fire.

You may notice a hill with a large buff-colored outcropping at its peak to the north of the cache. Locals called this "the Anvil", and Mrs. Ryan said that it was so large that a wagon and a team of horses could turn around on it.

You should park along the street near where the housing begins. There is a trail from there right to the cache. The walk in will feature a lush area full of cattails inhabited by red-wing blackbirds.

Rules for placing cache larvae:

  1. Take only one cache larva at a time.
  2. Place cache in the general area indicated on the container. Find a good spot, but try to keep it within 0.5 miles at most. I suggest keeping the terrain rating fairly low on these.
  3. Give it a name of your own choosing.
  4. Place the larva where an ammo box or equivalent sized plastic container could be located. That means it will probably have to be in a fairly wild setting as opposed to an urban one.
  5. The larva must be placed in an environmentally sensitive manner. Try to place it so no new trails will form and bushwhacking will not be necessary.
  6. All geocaching.com rules must be followed in placement.
