I was hiking in Grant Park, trying to reach Impromptu cache. TeamAlamo, FisherWoman and I took the wrong trail and after only a little while we threw caution to the winds and took off down a narrow game trail. We followed Lee down that trail quite a ways and eventually found the cache, but not before getting pretty lost for awhile.
I do use maps, and I sometimes plan out my outings to some degree. Still, sometimes it's nice to go out onto the trails without quite being sure where you are going. Sometimes it's fun to explore instead of just navigate. Sometimes it's an adventure to get a little bit lost.
After stumbling down various game trails for awhile we came out on this hill with a nice view all around - at least it was a nice view on a sunny December afternoon. I wanted to remember the moment and the view, so I hid a cache. We were lost when I hid it, far away from any trail other than the game trail we followed, not in any particularly rational spot if you're hiking around on the trail network. Don't worry about hurting the environment - it's all oak grassland. It was ruined long before any of us were born.
