Bzerk Park+Rec Orphans #08: Haskell-Mabel Mini-Pk Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Nomex: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

This is a small container, covered in camouflage tape and hidden in one of Berkeley's cache-less parks.

This is the 8th in a continuing series of hides that I place in Berkeley parks that don't have caches (and are eligible for caches). I wanted to do some more hides; Berkeley has many parks without caches... seemed like a good match. I am seeing a lot of Berkeley's smaller parks, and noticing things that I might not have seen otherwise; perhaps you hunters will appreciate this, too.

Haskell-Mabel Mini-Park, at 0.13 acres, is the smallest park yet in this series. It nonetheless commands a corner lot in a working-class neighborhood in Southeast Berkeley, below Ashby. It has some nice play structures. The north-south street that borders it, Mabel Street, is a fairly good place to cross Ashby Avenue on a bicycle or on foot (perhaps on your way to BzP+RO #6?), with its traffic light. On my several visits to collect waypoints for averaging, the neighbors closest to the cache have been eyeing me suspiciously; you are hereby advised to use some stealth.

Berkeley parks are open from 6am to 10pm. Please represent responsible Geocaching, and respect the rules of the park.

The cache itself is a jelly jar, 2.75" diam by 4" tall, covered in camouflage tape. Small trade items only.

You may find parking for some of this series to be somewhat challenging. I encourage you to find out how bikeable/walkable/transit-able (most of) Berkeley's parks can be. (The ones that are hardest to transit/walk to have the easiest parking; funny how that works out. %-} )

Initial contents of the cache:

  • Hider-made polymer clay magnet, for the FTF
  • "Honeycomb ball" from Sydney's Powerhouse Museum
  • Spinny-top, also from Sydney's Powerhouse Museum
  • Micro deck of round playing cards
  • Travel Bug: Brianna's Boo Adventure

FTF: k5incali! Congratulations!
