Geocache Description:

Snakes have been seen especially on the track on warm days...

Keimola motor circuit was opened in 1966. During 60's and 70's many drivers later known as Formula 1 legends raced here.

A yearly rock festival was also held for some years, but it was not very successful. Usually only thing remembered from those events were the bad weather and a Finnish rock band Remu & Hurriganes making a deal with then unknown label Love Records.

The circuit was closed in 1978. After some accidents in illegal races during 80's the surface of track was destroyed and area was abandoned. Nowadays a forest grows on the site, but some motor sports fans still make their yearly pilgrimage to the area. The area also has many fan web sites; you can start at (http://personal.inet.fi/urheilu/keimola/) or try your favourite search engine.

In early 2004 there was a massive fire in a facility for recycling used car tires.

City of Vantaa has planned some houses here, so the last remains of the track may not be here after some years.

This cache has been changed to regular-sized multi-stage cache in June 2005

Parking info: When coming by car, approach from north. The road can be driven, if you are careful and are not driving extremely low street racer. Road is blocked at N60 19.072, E 24 49.594. You can leave your car there. Then follow the remains of the track for 2-star route to the tower. The final stage might be a bit harder.

You can also park on the other side of motorway, at the end of Sälpäkuja and take the bridge.

The starting coordinates take you to the timing and control tower. Here you have to count:
A = Number of concrete platforms ("floors") in the tower.
B = Circumference of tower in meters, rounded to nearest full meter

The cache is located in:

N 60 ( A * 33 + B * 76 + 18396 ) / 1000
E 24 ( A * 50 + B * 30 + 49149 ) / 1000

A TB race from Austin, TX to Keimola has started. Track crew wishes the best luck to all the competitors.
