We're celebrating! In this year's survey of urban Micro Spew™ in
35 of the largest cities in the United States, Pittsburgh
distinguished itself by having fewer micros than any other city!
Woo Hoo! Let's take our blue ribbon and run with it!
In last year's survey, Pittsburgh finished second to Boston for
the lowest incidence of micros as a percentage of total caches and
the New England Patriots beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC
Championship Game. In this year's survey, Boston edged out
Pittsburgh again but this time around the Steelers won the Super
Bowl. Ha! This proves inconclusively that there is little or no
correlation between the phenomena of Micro Spew™ and the
performance of professional football teams. Nevertheless, I still
believe this to be a fairly good indicator of the overall
quality of the caches hidden by our community. It's time to
build us another big fire and appenge some more!
There's going to be a bonfire. A
guardrail will be scorched and some film canisters will be
burnt. If this offends you, you need not attend. I am not
advocating the wanton destruction of any crummy micros unless
their proper owners want to sacrifice them on the fire. The
event will begin at 2:00 PM and the burn will be at dusk
(approximately 7:30 PM).
This event will be held on the property of my parents in rural
Greensburg. It will be essentially the same as last
year and previous
events
held at this location. The kids will enjoy the "rides" that we have
set up in the woods. Pets with well-behaved owners are also welcome
to attend. Bring an entrée (burgers, dogs, etc.) for yourself and a
covered dish (chips, cookies, potato salad, etc.) to share with
fellow geocachers. I'll supply a gas or charcoal grill for cooking.
I'll also supply tables, chairs, plates, cups, napkins,
plasticware, and drinks. Beer will be available but I expect any
drinking to be done in moderation. This is a family affair. Anyone
who overindulges will be sacrificed on the micro pyre. I think
we'll probably spend most of our time socializing and putting names
and faces to the geocache logs but there will also be a couple of
temporary caches for you to try while you are here.
It's difficult to offer driving directions except to say that we
are on Route 819 between South Greensburg and Armbrust.
Fortunately, this should not be too much of an issue for this
group. My advice is to find your way to New Stanton or Youngwood
and follow your GPS from there. If you need better directions,
please email.
Please RSVP by posting a log to this page.
Please note that this event page is "not a forum for the airing
of personal grievences". I will have to report you to the person
who explained this to me if you insist on doing this.
