The goal for this travel bug is to meet new cachers, share a very unusual icon and spread happiness.
This travel bug commemorates the Cuckoo cache which was a moving geocache archived by Groundspeak in 2017.
In the beginning (of Geocaching), many innovative ideas became reality and travelling geocaches were one example of this. The Cuckoo cache was a moving geocache and could move from location to location to be found by cachers in different places. This travel bug travelled with the Cuckoo cache and recorded where it went.
The Cuckoo cache started its journey in April 2002 and it travelled around the world until it was archived by Groundspeak HQ in May 2017, when all remaining moving caches were archived (about 40 in total).
During the life of the Cuckoo cache, it:
- travelled 104,699 miles (168,498 Km)
- was found 7,114 times
- was awarded 1,501 favourite points
- was #1 in a list of UK cache favourite points
This was the original TB number sent out with the Cuckoo cache to track it's whereabouts in 2002, hence it's impressive mileage. It travelled all over Europe, North America (including Hawaii), New Zealand, Guam in the Pacific and many other places. Eventually it returned to us and went to many Megas and even a Giga event in Germany.
The archived Cuckoo cache page can be found at this cache page where you can read the logs of people who enjoyed finding it.
When the Cuckoo cache was archived, HQ provided an icon which is unique only to TBs associated with moving caches. I find this icon to be highly appropriate.
In one respect the Cuckoo Cache will continue to travel.

I was reminiscing a little while ago, looking at my old finds, and I stumbled across this trackable. I logged the cache back in 2014 at the very first GIGA in Munich.
