About This Item

The idea to produce a "Kidscoin" came up during the preparations for a lecture at the Viennese children's university on the topic of navigation and GPS, that of course should include a geocache as "practical lesson". Children should get the chance to contribute to the design of the coin - thus the Austrian Kidscoin Competition was called, open for all geocaching kids up to the age of 12. The challenge was to develop a design for one side of the Kidscoin (the other was reserved for the logo). An expert jury (recognized geocoin experts from Austria) selected the finalists, out of which the winner was chosen in a public voting by the Austrian geocaching community. The winner 2010 was 9-year old johaenchen. She started geocaching seven months ago, her other hobbies are drawing, reading, swimming and playing on the Nintendo DS. In the next school year, she will attend the artistic branch of the BRG Boerhaavegasse, a school that especially fosters gifted students. Her winning design, the "map", described by herself: "I sketched a map with two caches, because maps and reading maps are very important for geocaching. It is important to have a good overview. And because you get to see many streets, houses, parks, ... while you are caching, and discover many beautiful and interesting locations, where caches are hidden. A map, which is not for the eyes of a muggle, only for cachers like us."

I am the owner of the SAYC geocache in Stoughton Wisconsin. Unfortunately, some time today my cache was vandelized. Unfortunately, the Las Vegas Austrian Kidscoin was taken, while some contents of the cache were just left laying about.

This should be another nice cache for this particular coin. The cache is at the Stoughton Youth Center.

Really a neat coin. I have a good place to drop this off soon. It is at a geocache in memory of my late wife, a school teacher.
