Geocache Description:

This cache is located INSIDE the Deke Slayton Memorial Space & Bicycle Museum across the street from the Sparta Free Library. This building is part of the Historic Four Corners of Sparta. When you enter the building go straight up to the 2nd floor (the door can be found at N 43 56.669 W 090 48.759). Museum hours are Tuesday- Saturday 10am- 4pm. Make sure to let them know you are looking for the cache- they will wave admission. Cache placed with permission from the Executive Director of the Museum, Alyssa Young. Some of our favorite things to see at the museum are the astronaut suit on loan from NASA, bikes dating back to the 1800’s, airplanes, and a piece of the moon. Interesting fact about Deke Slayton: Deke Slayton grew up near Sparta. As a child he lost his ring finger in a farming accident. Luckily, this was the only finger one could lose and still be in the Air Force. This cache was place as part of the 2011 Teen Summer Library Program at Sparta Free Library. For more information about this museum check out www.dekeslaytonmuseum.org. For more information about programming and other services available at the Sparta Free Library go to www.spartalibrary.org. If your GPS struggles in the building, try using the additional hint. Enjoy looking around this cool museum!
