Current Goal

The TB has finished his main goal (thanks to Fraste for doing the last move!). Now the TB wants to go back to its homecache in Worms, Germany (GC15JEK)

His first goal was: "Tramp to Florida, USA and visit the Nasa-countdown-table at the visitor-area at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida where the Space Shuttles are starting. Please take a picture from the TB and the famous countdown-table in this nice area!"

About This Item

This travelbug "7-segment" startet in the Geocache with the same name in Worms, germany (GC15JEK). I know, this is a funny name for a town to american peoples :-) It is a homage to all inventors and scientists who have created this type of display! The most famous display based on this technology is probably the Countown-counter in the visitor-area of the "John F. Kennedy Space Center", which shows the remaining time before the space shuttles are starting. This should be the goal for this travel bug. After that it will be amazing, if this TB will find his way back into his Homecache in germany (GC15JEK) I would be glad for every picture of my TB with a segement-display in your house, car or area!!!

If anyone knows where this bug is right now, I will be at the launch on Monday May 11, and could put the bug right on top the big clock!

16MAY: well, the launch was spectacular. I was on the grass right behind the clock. As you can see in the photo, I was pretty close to this famous device. There was an Imax film crew there shooting for a 3D movie to come out some time in the fall of 2009. You might see me in the movie!

  • Is this the clock you were looking for? Yup, that's me leaning against the famous countdown clock. From here the launch was ... overwhelming!

GOAL SOLVED !!!!

Fraste, thank you very much for targeting the TB so exactly! If you are nearby Worms, i will spend you a lunch to say "Thank you!".

Especially the nice picture with the little, little countdown clock makes me happy!

OK, now return. I change the text of the TB to go home to the homecache in Worms.
Thanx again and have a nice trip in USA! JoJoBeMi

Actually we wanted to fullfill the task of this TB. However, although we visited the KSC with a up close tour, we weren't able to get to the countdown clock. As far as we know the countdown clock is on a restricted area, which can only be visited by workers of the KSC or VIP persons watching a launch. There is no other clock around - as far as a guide told us.
Maybe the next finder can bring it there....
Or maybe the owner declares the task fullfilled.
Anyway, we attach some nice pictures of our visit - including the space shuttle going to lunch at March 11 and the TB in front of the VAB (Vehicle assembly building)!

  • Space Shuttle at launching platform The space shuttle Endeavour, which is going to launch at March 11 2008 (8 days from now). Its task: International Space Station assembly mission which will deliver the first element of Japan's Kibo module along with a Canadian robotic arm, Dextre, and the Spacelab Pallet-Deployable 1.
  • Countdown Clock This is the countdown clock seen from the Nasa up-close bus tour we've taken.
  • TB in front of VAB This is the TB in front of the huge Vehicle Assembly Building.

The VAB is 525 feet (160.02 m) tall, 716 feet (218.24 m) long and 518 feet (157.89 m) wide. It covers 8 acres (32,374.85 m²), and encloses 129,428,000 cubic feet, 664,992.82 cubic metres) of space.

The interior volume of the building is so vast, NASA employees have reported it has its own weather, "NASA employees report that rain clouds form below the ceiling on very humid days."

The building implements four large air machin

E: We found this TB in Munich and we will take it with us to a more convenient location for it's further travels or maybe we will take it by ourselves when traveling to Boston in April.

Discovered It 12/1/2007 Fraste discovered it   Visit Log

Together with ingridilein we discovered this TB. Since we won't go to the USA in the near future, we didn't pick it up.
