Takins and Tigers and Sea Lions, OH MY!

Since I originated near the Saint Louis Zoo, I want to visit as many AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) and WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums) zoos and aquariums as possible!

A short history lesson!

From the AZA website:

From the WAZA website:
-"The goal of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums is to guide, encourage and support the zoos, aquariums and like-minded organisations of the world in animal care and welfare, environmental education and global conservation."

All about my origins in Saint Louis.....

Rumblings of starting a Zoological Park in Saint Louis started after the 1904 World's Fair.  The zoo was officially founded in 1910 in Forest Park with the Smithsonian Bird Cage as it's cornerstone (you can still visit it today as the Cypress Swamp).  Admission to the zoo was free then, as it is now.  To learn more about the history of the Saint Louis Zoo go here (They do a better job on the website) ------> http://www.stlzoo.org/about/history/azooisborn/ 

SO!  Take me to the zoo or aquarium! I want to see your favorite animal or even an animal you know nothing about!  (Even if you only get me to the entrance, that's cool, too!)  Take time to learn a little about what you see (or might see).  How does it interact with its world?  How does it interact with yours?  What can YOU do to make both worlds better?  

Now go out there and make the world a better place!!
