Het beroep van strandjutter Strandjutters zijn verzamelaars. Ze speuren het strand af op zoek naar bruikbare of waardevolle spullen. Dat kan van alles zijn: kratten van een vissersboot, kostbare fossielen, drijfhout of flessenpost. Echte strandjutters gaan er speciaal voor naar het strand, het liefst bij onstuimig weer. Dan is de kans het grootst dat er wat bijzonders aanspoelt. Langs de vloedlijn is de kans het grootst dat er iets te vinden is. Dat is lijn waar het water tijdens vloed de hoogste stand bereikt. Als het eb wordt, blijven juist daar veel spullen achter. Vroeger was het strandjutten een manier om wat extra geld te verdienen. De aangespoelde spullen werden gebruikt als bouwmateriaal, brandhout, of werden verkocht. Ze probeerden elkaar voor te zijn als er iets te halen viel op het strand.
