About This Item

Hanging with Dave Matthews and My Friend Debbie

This is my personal travel bug. In addition to keeping track of my mileage, I'll use it record an ongoing log of our adventures.

This Bug shares my screenname that I use on various DMB forums. It's play on the song title, "One Sweet World" and my first name. The Dave Matthews Band is my favorite band and I've seen them in concert over 50 times. I've traveled across the country to see them play making it as far as Washington state! I thought it fitting name for my personal TB, as I've been quite the travelbug in my past!

[Warning: The TB logs and photos may contain spoilers.]

If you meet me on a geocache hunt, ask me for the TB tracking number and you can log a find.

Retrieve It from a Cache 9/5/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Vital Remains New York   Visit Log

Vital Remains has earned a spot on our favorites bookmark list. We loved everything about it -- the views, the wildlife, the memorials, the cache site and even the cache contents. The boys were fascinated by the animal bones. It was really cool. It was also lucky I had them with me! I made them go in and retrieve the cache so I wouldn't have to.

Julian is getting over his fear of cemetaries -- he prefers to call them "memorial parks", which is cool with me if it gets him there and interested.

I hope we took some really good pictures. We want to go back with a clean memory card so we have room for all the photos we wanted to take but couldn't today.

Saw some deer right after getting out of the car, some chipmunks, freaky ants, a couple snakes, and a group of groundhogs that were playing and running (so cute!) The views of the area from all sides were all great, although I think I only got photos of the JC side on this trip.

Anyway, this was one awesome cache. In retrospect I wish we'd made this our fiftieth.

Glad to knock this cache off of our DNF list (it was getting really long). I don't know why we had such a difficult time the first time we tried it. I thought we had looked there several times. I got on the other side, and the different perspective helped me see it right away.

Stopped after crossing the street to take some pictures with the boys. Nice start to our day. We were hoping to find 5 more caches to get up to 50 finds 2 months from the date we found our first.

Well, we thought our success on Part 3 was a good omen for the day, but apparently we were wrong. We finished 6 for 7, ending the day with a DNF on Part 2. We rode the carousel and enjoyed the playground for a while before heading home.

This series will drive me insane! And I thought Vargseld's "?" was bad!

As soon as I saw the title of this cache, I knew just what we had to look for. Our coords were a bit off, so it took us a little while. The kids got such a kick out of it. They couldn't wait to tell their Dad all about it. This will go down as one of our favorites -- it brought pure joy to the lives of one seven year old boy and one nine year old boy. They were too funny when talking about it. They were making huge proclaimations in the car about how this was the best caching day ever. Even Ryder was all excited. This made us 6 for 6 for the day so far.

Just a quick stop on our way from Reptilian Hotel to Brixius Creek. TN, SL, and noted coordinates for part 2. Part 2 wasn't listed in the nearest caches, so we decided to save the rest of this for another day and after we've mapped it. This was easier than Taz Token #2. Quick and painless (of course I don't think part 2 is supposed to be the same.) We look forward to completing this.

Hmmmm, it took me awhile to remember the name (I mean, it's been 15 years), but I believe we used to call this area "Fat Jackson's" back in high school. This is the first time I've been here while it was light out!

Beautiful area. We loved exploring on and off trail. Spotted some snakes, did some minnow-watching, and just had a blast. Even Ryder was very excited. We didn't find the cache right away. I didn't think it would be where it was. But once we ruled out the places on our side of the creek I knew I had to widen my circle. Once I decided to approach the creek bed I found it very quickly. It was a great spot for a hide.

Ryder loves the stretchy lizard he traded for, and Julian traded for his second matchbox of the day. In the car on the way to the next target, there was a lot of conversation about how they were going to collect lizards and matchboxes from now on when they can. They're a couple of goofs; it was so cute to eavesdrop on their conversation.

This was easily one of our favorites of the caches we've done so far. It was a perfect day for it, too.

Retrieve It from a Cache 9/4/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from High land--------End well New York   Visit Log

For all the summers that I spent every weekday at Highland Park growing up, I'd never been over to this part of the park. I've been on the trails on the other side of the lower park, but not this one. We loved walking here. It was really cool to take the boys to a place that I'd spent a lot of time while growing up.

Julian took the lead navigating to the cache. He did an excellent job! We found it easily, liked the hiding spot. Took some more silly pictures of the boys.

Three for three for the day so far!

Oh my gosh, we finally found one of the caches in the Merry Go Round series! Not only that, we did it on our own! Took just a minute and we got it. I really needed this, I don't know what we would have done if we hadn't found another one of these at this point.

Rode the carousel and the boys played on the playground for a while before we headed off to the next cache. A wonderful day in the park!

Retrieve It from a Cache 9/4/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from The Slumber of Yesteryears New York   Visit Log

The Slumber of Yesteryears was the first of seven attempted caches for the day. What a sweet little cemetary. Growing up here I must have driven past thousands of times, but this is the first time I actually visited it. The boys loved it, too. Even Julian, who is scared of cemetaries, is asking when we can go back to visit.

I had no idea the history of this place. Apparently one of the first settling families of the area has many members buried here. The headstones were around 150 years old on average. I don't think I've ever seen headstones that old! It was hard to read many of them, and we're considering going back and doing some rubbings.

Beautiful sweet little place, we enjoyed this very much!

Retrieve It from a Cache 9/1/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Merry-go-Round Pt. 1 The Search Begins New York   Visit Log

Finally got this one. All it took was three trips and a note from Holth. I wish we'd been able to get it on our own, but I swear this Merry Go Round series will be the death of me! Here's our stats so far:

Pt. 1: DNF the first time (confirmed missing); DNF the second time (looked in the right place, but missed it); and found it today (with pretty explicit directions from the cache owner, sigh).

Pt. 2: First attempt today, DNF.

Pt. 3: Haven't attempted yet.

Pt. 4: DNF the first time; had conversation with snail84 to confirm we were looking in the right place; went back and DNF again on the second try.

Pt. 5: DNF the first time (had an idea where it should be, but structure was missing); Went a second time, found the correct structure (it had been moved), but the cache was missing.

Pt. 6: Haven't attempted yet.

We will complete this series! It may take us until 2007, but we will do it!
