About This Item

Hanging with Dave Matthews and My Friend Debbie

This is my personal travel bug. In addition to keeping track of my mileage, I'll use it record an ongoing log of our adventures.

This Bug shares my screenname that I use on various DMB forums. It's play on the song title, "One Sweet World" and my first name. The Dave Matthews Band is my favorite band and I've seen them in concert over 50 times. I've traveled across the country to see them play making it as far as Washington state! I thought it fitting name for my personal TB, as I've been quite the travelbug in my past!

[Warning: The TB logs and photos may contain spoilers.]

If you meet me on a geocache hunt, ask me for the TB tracking number and you can log a find.

Retrieve It from a Cache 7/8/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Whispering Pines New York   Visit Log

(Playing catch up on personal TB logs)

Whispering Pines, a pet cemetary. What wasn't there to like about this location? I hadn't even known this place existed. It was very cool. We enjoyed our visit a lot. Beautiful memorial to the horses, plus we stayed afterward to read the other headstones for the much loved pets people have lost. The boys were definitely intrigued with the place.

We got home and looked up the information on the Kentucky Derby on the internet together, after the boys placed bets on which they thought the winner was. Julian won, Ryder lost. He was not happy about that!

Anyway, this was our first virtual cache, and we loved it. Very cool.

This one took two trips. The first time we were there we thought we were looking for a regular sized cache, similar to the ones we'd already found. Couldn't figure out where such a thing could be hidden. Went home, reread the cache page, and went back to start a new search armed with the knowledge that this one is a micro. Found it easily once we had an idea of what we might be looking for. Fifth find, first micro.

We all thought the site was very interesting. Everytime we drive by it now, the kids start talking about the tower and wonder if it worked. I love learning about the local history. This was very cool.

(Catching up on personal TB Logs)

We had a tough time finding this one. Talk about bushwacking! Once we got in the general vicinity the tree cover was very heavy and our GPS sent us in circles for what seemed hours. It took us a long time to get it to settle down enough to put us in the right area, but we eventually found the cache. Just in time, as we were about to give up after over an hour of looking. But we got it.

We trashed out the ruined cds in paperboard cases -- they were a mess, as someone hadn't closed the lid tightly and it was really wet. Cache is still full, but not overflowing anymore and hopefully won't get any wetter now that the lid can close tight.

Julian took a baseball pin, Ryder grabbed a ring, and we left some cds behind, including live concert recordings from last week's Dave Matthews Band shows in Saratoga Springs.

We decided we absolutely love this park. We will definitely have to come back again and explore more of the trails.

We enjoyed this hike, once we got up the hill! Neat area for a hide. The coordinates took us right to the spot and we found it right away. I think I pointed it to the boys, and then Ryder took credit, lol. Well, let him have it. He wanted the dollar I promised to the one who found the cache first when we went to Wallaby - Independence Day Cache. I told him the offer had expired, but I stopped and got them each an icecream on the way home. 🙂

Julian was very excited -- someone had left an aeronautical map, which he traded for. It was the perfect thing to combine two of this kid's loves -- planes and maps. He had it spread out over the entire living for days pouring over it. I love that he found something he truly feels is priceless.

This is a really beautiful area! We didn't know this was here and it's so close to home. The kids really enjoyed hunting for this cache. This is one of the ones we attempted before getting the GPSr, and we were amazed at how far off course it turned out we were that first attempt.

Ryder took an Irish music cd and Julian took a Brian Green (yes, Brian Austin Green from 90210) cd. Steve made fun of him for days over that, but Julian was quite attached to it. More because it was a treasure he found in a cache than any actual interest he may have ever had in the music.

We left a couple rock albums in their place and signed the log. We will always remember this cache fondly, for it's beautiful scenery especially.

Retrieve It from a Cache 7/5/2005 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Wallaby - Independance Day Cache New York   Visit Log

(Just going back and editing logs for personal TB to have a better journal of our caching adventures)

We had tried a few caches on our own before getting our GPSr, with no success on any. We tried ?, Wittman Sampler, and Off Your Rocker. At least we enjoyed the hunt -- especially for Wittman and ?. Both were areas I never knew existed and that we just loved.

Did some hunting for a GPSr so I wouldn't have to wait until my birthday in September to get started. I was actually looking for a Lowrance iFinder GO or GO2, as the cheapest, but they didn't carry those anywhere in my area. Before I bought one online I found a Geko 201 on clearance at Dicks and I decided I couldn't wait -- especially with a full week of vacation ahead. I succumbed and bought the geko and found out it had an additional discount, so I got it for $55.

Tried our first the same day, on July 4th. We tried Gaze Upon the Forest. Again, no dice. Confirmed later by the cache owner to be missing, so this time it wasn't our fault! We couldn't wait to try again, but due to the holiday festivities it would have to wait until the next day.

Wallaby Independance Day Cache was our first find! What a great location for a hide. And now we know what an ammo can looks like and what it is that we've been searching for on some of our other attempts. This was really cool, we enjoyed it so much.

Cache contents were not as good as others we've seen since, but it didn't matter to us then. Julian grabbed a globe keychain and Ryder took a pterydactyl toy. Julian's been carrying that globe with him everywhere since! We left behind a caribiner combination lock and crab swimming goggles. All three of us signed the log. The boys were so excited! What a wonderful activity we've found to do as a family.
