(Just going back and editing logs for personal TB to have a better journal of our caching adventures)
We had tried a few caches on our own before getting our GPSr, with no success on any. We tried ?, Wittman Sampler, and Off Your Rocker. At least we enjoyed the hunt -- especially for Wittman and ?. Both were areas I never knew existed and that we just loved.
Did some hunting for a GPSr so I wouldn't have to wait until my birthday in September to get started. I was actually looking for a Lowrance iFinder GO or GO2, as the cheapest, but they didn't carry those anywhere in my area. Before I bought one online I found a Geko 201 on clearance at Dicks and I decided I couldn't wait -- especially with a full week of vacation ahead. I succumbed and bought the geko and found out it had an additional discount, so I got it for $55.
Tried our first the same day, on July 4th. We tried Gaze Upon the Forest. Again, no dice. Confirmed later by the cache owner to be missing, so this time it wasn't our fault! We couldn't wait to try again, but due to the holiday festivities it would have to wait until the next day.
Wallaby Independance Day Cache was our first find! What a great location for a hide. And now we know what an ammo can looks like and what it is that we've been searching for on some of our other attempts. This was really cool, we enjoyed it so much.
Cache contents were not as good as others we've seen since, but it didn't matter to us then. Julian grabbed a globe keychain and Ryder took a pterydactyl toy. Julian's been carrying that globe with him everywhere since! We left behind a caribiner combination lock and crab swimming goggles. All three of us signed the log. The boys were so excited! What a wonderful activity we've found to do as a family.
