To travel the world in search of great railroads and railway systems. LITTLE SPIKE wants to ride the great Canadian Pacific Railway; the Trans-Siberian Railway; the Orient Express (or any of its' current breakaway routes); the Chunnel; and of course, the Snow Train of Ontario, Canada. There are probably other great rail systems that LITTLE SPIKE isn't even aware of. Photos of his journeys, trains and rail lines would make a nice portfolio.
LITTLE SPIKE is from a dismantled section of the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad (LS&I), in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (U.P.). Although LS&I was never a narrow gauge railway, technological advancements since its' startup in 1893, rendered LITTLE SPIKE and his brethren obsolete and replaced as a matter of rail maintenance. Fair numbers of little spikes have surfaced over the years with some of the abandoned rail grades being converted to recreational trails. LS&I is still in operation as a subsidiary of Cliffs Natural Resources, but only as an iron ore short line from just south of Ishpeming (Empire-Tilden Mine) to Lake Superior at Marquette where the ore is loaded onto great lakes ore carriers for shipment. You can also check on LITTLE SPIKES' brothers geo-adventure at Not a Golden Spike!.
