It's lucky that I stumbled upon "Movin' Out" while my dad dragged me to all the caches he's found recently. In three years nobody has taken this bug to a show???? Fortunately, we had tickets for "Hello, Dolly!" last night.
To be honest, I didn't really like the show "Movin' Out". "Mama Mia" was only marginally better. I like the music of Billy Joel and ABBA, but I'd rather just put in a CD. I think a story suffers when it must be built around pre-existing songs, like in "Mia", and "Movin'" barely had a story at all!
I've been an appreciator of the theater since my parents began taking me when I was four or five. If I've got to pick, I suppose the following are my 10 favorite musicals, based on a random variety of factors (number of times I've seen the show appears in parentheses):
- "Les Miserables" (5)
- "The Scarlet Pimpernel" (1)
- "The Lion King" (6)
- "Big River" - the sign language version (3)
- "Whistle Down the Wind" (1)
- "Hairspray" (3)
- "Hair" (2)
- "Aida" (2)
- "Making Tracks" (1)
- "Spamalot" (1)
If I'd only had this travel bug last month, I could have gotten its pic taken with Jean Valjean (Randal Keith) of Les Miz. With the permission of the owners, I will hang onto the TB until Aug. 9 when I have tickets to "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" in Seattle. Maybe "Movin' Out" can get his photo taken with some actors at that one.
