Current Goal

Hi all. Two hundred plus finds and I'm finally releasing my first Travel Bug, Mac the Bear, who is a souvenir of the 2001 Masters Golf Tournament.

Mac is starting out in my first puzzle cache, 'X Marks the Spot - Urban Jungle III'.

Take Mac anywhere you'd like but I'd love to see photos of him hitting the links... or the 19th hole... or anyplace in between, 'cause Mac's just that kind of bear.

Mac the Bear came with me this afternoon to a 20 km far air ride with a 4200 cubic meter big hot air balloon! It was a great day out. There are some golf grounds in this region but the wind drifted us not in there vecineties. So we enjoyed the view out off our basket to the "Fränkische Schweiz" as we call this part of northern Bavaria. There are some more pictures from this ride in the log from TBJZK1.

  • 1 Ready for lift off! We launched from "Burg Feuerstein" airfield (EDQE)
  • 2 Just airborn Local time 14.15 MET = 1315 UTC. There was no controller on the tower today.
  • But we had radio contact to the only plane pilot. After his report to initializing now his landing we decided to wait with our take off untill he touched down. This picture shows him on the taxi way heading back to the hangars.
  • Michael started about half an hour after us The pre flight preparations on the launch site usually costs 40 to 60 minutes with the help of our undrilled pessangers. Trained teams might handle it in 15 to 20 minutes. But I prefer the stressless slow kind with more plessure.
  • 450 meters above ground (= 1500 feet). That's some 900 meters (3000 ft) above the main sea level.
  • LORbit shows Mac the low orbit. After 38 minutes of airborness there was still a lot to see.
  • Blue sky above the inversion layer This town is Hollfeld. We landed there some 20 minutes later.
  • Approaching Hollfeld Airport? No, balloons do not need any airports for landings.
  • 9 As we descend kids of any age recognised us. They yelled up joyful hellos and waved there hands. What a warm welcome on such a not so warm day.
  • Tumbling out last air of the balloon's envelope. After we touched down at 15.41 MET (1441 UTC) a small crowd of local people helped us kindly to deflate our balloon. Especially the children had big fun because we allowed them to do the fine tu(r)ning.
