Fawley Owl is a kind, helpful and cheerful little soul who is very inquisitive and loves to meet children of all ages.

He was hatched and hand-reared in 2002 by Fawley Infant Schools' Reception Class (now Year 2), who were between four and five years of age. They took considerable time to train him and teach him to be polite in the company of strangers. Following Fawley Owl's progress around the country (or even the world!) is an excellent introduction for the children into the use of computers, the Internet, and basic geography.

The class would love to hear from other children who have found him and taken him to their school to introduce him to their friends. If you have children of any age and find Fawley Owl, please encourage your child to take him along to school and have his picture taken with them.

If you would like to visit the school's website, please click here.

The children look forward to watching his progress!

Fawley Owl joined Brad(6) and Ross(4) today at Kids Kingdom's (pre-school) tenth anniversary. (Goedemoed, Durbanville, Cape Town). He also came up the road to play in the snow (Ceres). Brrrr - he couldn't believe it snowed near Cape Town. Ross had to keep him warm in his gloves! Fawley Owl is so happy to be out of that plastic box and stretching his wings again. He hopes to meet the rest of the kids at Kids Kingdom during the week.
He sends best regards to the kids at Fawley Infant school (UK). Photos to follow.Timm Brad Ross

  • Fawley avoids speeding tortoises On his way down from Tygerberg Cache, Fawley had to watch out for super fast tortoises. The park warden has even had to put up a sign telling the tortoises to slow down to 15 KPH.

  • Fawley Owl sees snow near Cape Town We thought Fawley Owl would like a night time drive through a forest - just to make him feel at home. When he looked outside and saw snow - he really thought he was back home in England. We assured him that he was still on holiday in Africa, and we'd arrange a few braais for him to enjoy the night life here.

No problems guys, we all have to learn how to use these new fangled computer thingies, and we appreciate your honesty in this matter. In the meatime, we look forward to seeing where Fawley Owl gets to next.

Our apologies for this delay. Due to our inexperience in these matters we have failed to make to appropriate notes and log-ins - but this will (we trust) now be put right.

Fawley Owl is about to get back on the road within the next week i.e. by 9 August 2003.

He is in excellent condition and has, as luck would have it, met with children from Parklands College in Cape Town South Africa although, unfortunately, no photos were taken.

Our apologies again.

Fawley Owl was featured on a BBC Radio 4 Programme - Your and Yours - today at midday!

The headteacher of Fawley School, Tina Daniels, along with Sarah (from Team Tate) and six children from the school were featured as they went to find Owl's House - a cache set up specifically for the event.

Each of the children received a gift from Fawley Owl with his picture on, along with the Radio 4 logo.

The broadcast lasted over six minutes and promoted Geocaching as something that is not only fun, but also educational!

Team Tate would like to sincerely thank the BBC for helping to promote our sport. Lets just hope Fawley Owl manages to hear the good news!
