"Dero" Friendship Pelican

To travel from British Columbia to Central Chile and back to California with the Brown Pelicans of the World.......and to eventually be re-united with "Pesca" the pelican......my other half that makes me whole. (See description)

This is one of two "friendship pelicans" we are setting free in the Monterrey Bay Area. CalypsoPoet and I, AvilaDreamer, have been best friends for many years. We love to spend time together, travel together and, of course, geocache together!  On this trip to California, we spent our first evening driving down PCH from San Francisco to Santa Cruz when we stopped in Pescadero to watch the sunset and witnessed thousands of pelicans practicing aerobatic flight patterns and behaviors in the wind currents like nothing we've ever seen before....and what a sight to see! We stayed until the sun was completely gone and continued to be awed by the Pelican air show we received our first night back in Cali! 

As a remembrance, we have tagged two pelicans with friendship travel bug tags to set free in Monterrey.....each pelican has half a heart trackable tag attached to it.....when together, the two halves form a whole.....the true beauty of our friendship. This pelican is "Dero" Pelican and it's mate is "Pesca" Pelican.  When they are together, they form "Pescadero"....the place in which their friendship began! 

We are leaving "Pesca" and "Dero"  behind in the same geocache to begin their flights into the geocaching world together..may their journeys take them to far off places....and though we know their travels will likely be independent, it is our hope that they will eventually come together again as "Pescadero" and one heart.
