Ein Gewichtsstück bzw. Massestück, umgangssprachlich auch Gewicht, ist eine Maßverkörperung der Masse. Die Bezeichnung "Gewicht" sollte nach DIN 1305 vermieden werden, wenn Verwechselungen mit den weiteren Bedeutungen Gewichtskraft oder Wägewert zu befürchten sind. Das Kilogramm ist die Basiseinheit der Masse im Internationalen Einheitensystem (SI). Seine Masse ist festgelegt durch die des Internationalen Kilogrammprototyps (auch Urkilogramm), eines Zylinders aus Platin-Iridium, der vom Internationalen Büro für Maß und Gewicht verwahrt wird. Das Einheitenzeichen des Kilogramms ist kg.

The unit symbol of the kilogram is kg.
