About This Item

Wristband with ticket stubs

Primary Mission:
Now that my favorite band Phish has announced they are breaking up, I decided that, since I can't go to their last show ever, I'll send this travel bug up there instead. The wristband you hold in your hand lived on my arm during the first large-scale festival that Phish performed: "The Clifford Ball" in August of 1996. So it seemed fitting that I send this wristband to the LAST large-scale festival performed by Phish, which is also their last show ever. It's entitled "Coventry."

The show is at a small airstrip in northern Vermont near the small town of Coventry -- exact coordinates: N44 53.511 W072 13.792. And the dates of this festival-type concert are 8/14 - 8/15/04. I don't really need anyone to log the bug into a cache up there. All I want is for it to make it to the show. I can't make it myself, for which I am sorely unhappy. So please snap a few photos... maybe a picture of it next to your OWN wristband for the Coventry show. Or better yet, a picture of Mike holding it! Yeah! :) Thanks so much!

Primary Mission Complete!
Thanks Ham_Bone!!

The secondary missions are as follows:

#2 To go to the Oswego County Airport in western New York, which was the location of "Oswego" in the summer of 1999. Snap a photo at the airport or place it in a nearby cache (search near Volney, NY or use zip code 13069).

#3 To go to the place of it's birth: Plattsburgh AFB in northeastern New York (across the pond from Burlington, VT), the location of The Clifford Ball. Snap a photo at the AFB or place in the nearest cache (search by zip code 12903).

#4 To continue north to the Loring AFB in northern Maine, near Limestone, ME, the location of three of these Phish festivals: "The Great Went" in 1997, "Lemonwheel" in 1998 and "IT" in 2003. Snap a photo at the AFB or place in the nearest cache. (search by zip code 04751).

While HamBone and the travel bug were at the Phish Festival, I was at Little Stephen's 1st International Underground Garage Festival at Randall's Island in NYC. So it seemed fitting that I should pick up this travel bug when I checked my travel bug hotel. I'll show it the Underground Garage Festival program..almost 40 bands there!.

Pictures note.
Sorry the night shots didn't turn out so good. I tried a couple of different settings on my camera and these are the only ones that aren't blurred.

Saturday evening brought the next to last Phish show ever. We attempted to make it into the show but the mud was literally mid calf deep sucking off my shoes and just generally making life miserable. So we went back to camp to listen to the show on the radio. After partying away the rest of the night we crashed to do it again on Sunday.

Sunday brought another round of beautiful weather, but the emotions in the lot could have been cut with a knife. The feeling was a rabid excitement coupled with a melancholy sorrow. That we were there to see the end of the era spurred the excitement but the actual end began seeking end bringing about the sorrow.

The band kicked off about 6:00 with a great first set. During the second set Trey was bawling just before kicking into a great jam on Split Open and Melt.
After the third set a fantastic, if short, fireworks show exploded and then the band came back on.

Trey then gave a brief personal history about living in that part of Vermont writing songs and used it to announce the last song Phish would ever play. It was a song that he had written while living solo in an unheated cabin during the very early days of the band (circa '83 or '84). The band then went into the final song "Curtain" and jammed it right. After the song was over the applause for another encore lasted forever, but Phish was not to return. The era had ended and one of the greatest bands of all times was no more.
Monday morning 8/16 we packed up and got towed out of the lot about 12:00 pm. Traffic moved extremely well and we were out of the venue by 2:00. We then headed north for another expedition. We hit the Canadian border, breezed through customs and arrived in Montreal around 5:00.

After a long, hot shower and about 15 minutes of foot scrubbing to no avail we were ready to hit the town.

We ended up bar hopping (I think we went to 6 bars) along Rue St. Catherine until 3:30 am at which point we finally made it back to the hotel and crashed.

We woke up around 7:00 am 8/17 to begin the trip home.

After driving through the beautiful Adirondack Mountains into Albany and then Pennsylvania I had a cache to drop the bug in. We let the bug out on 8/17 at about 4:00 pm.

We then continued to head south, dropped of our buddy in Petersburg, VA around 12:00 and arrived in Raleigh around 2:00 am. Unpacked the van, returned it to the rental place and got to bed around 4:00 am, just to wake up at 6:00 and go to work.

All in all it was a great trip, despite the weather. I got to do many things I may never do again and see one the greatest bands ever play their last show ever.

It was an honor to be able help this bug fulfill its mission and hope that others that follow will be able to continue it along its chosen path.

What a trip I have had with this bug. Through the forums Yodadoe requested another bug to try and make it to the last Phish show ever. I replied that I was going, but the bug was in Tampa and I'm in Raleigh. So Yodadoe released another bug into the wild and I grabbed it.

We left town August 11 at 7:30 pm and arrived at Foxwoods Casino at 7:00 am August 12. We gambled until 10:30 and left for Hartford. Crashed in Hartford for a few hours and went grocery shopping. Went to bed at 10:00pm 8/12 and woke up at 3:00 am 8/13 for the trek up to the Northeast Kingdom.

We stopped at 7:00 at White Bridge Junction for breakfast before getting in the traffic. Upon arriving to the grounds we were directed into an overflow lot to wait until the camping area opened at 12. The gates opened early but we sat in traffic until 6:00pm. During this time a light, and then heavy rain began to fall. Because of the rain many vehicles had to be towed to their campsite, however we were fortunate not to require it. We finally had camp set up at 9:00 pm just to sit and watch it pour.

Friday 8/13 brought further heavy rains. It was reported that on this day alone over 4" of rain were recorded. We walked around the lot a little and got completely soaked. By this time everything was waterlogged. Feet were nasty and truth be told our spirits were a little down.

However, Saturday brought out the beautiful sunshine. Ended up walking around the lot and viewing the various wares and info tents set up.
