I'm a player in the Devils in Danger geocaching game
that is also featured in the Devil in Danger geocaching.com forum.
Please help me spread the word about me and me mates' plight of nearing
endangered species status in Tasmania, way Down Under. Since I'm so close,
I want to visit Olerun's
Alaskan Tasmanian Devil Home in Anchorage, Alaska, before making tracks
for the Devils
in Danger geocache in Tasmania, Australia.
Yikes! One day I was close to my Tasmanian home with my buddies in
Eltham, Victoria, Australia, then I was stuffed into an envelope and when I
could breathe again, I found myself up to my belly in cold white stuff that is
somewhat like sand. I met up with a couple of cats who told me I was in
Alaska and that the white stuff is called "snow." I'm a marsupial, and marsupials certainly are not subarctic
critters. My ancestors lived throughout Australia, but then some folks
brought wild dogs called dingos to the mainline and they pushed us to extinction
there about 600 years ago. Now, Tassie Devils live only on the island of
Tasmania off the southern coast of Australia where we make a living as nocturnal
scavengers. Protected from hunting by law since 1941, we are now
threatened by something called devil facial tumor disease which kills 50-90% of
adults that contract it. You can learn more about me on the Tasmania Parks
and Wildlife Service website.
I also have a brother, Endangered Species - Portugal, who ended up in Portugal.
