Fairbanks Crossing Zone Cache Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Greatland Reviewer: Dear Cache Owner:

I have been going through caches that have multiple "DNF" (did not find) logs, which is often a sign that a cache is missing. Generally cachers avoid hunting a cache with many DNF logs, so it is a good idea for the Cache Owner to check the cache and either replace it or post a log to the cache page to tell fellow geocachers that the cache is still there, but they might need new eyeglasses. No action by the Cache Owner may result in a cache being archived to keep the cache from appearing in local Pocket Queries.

Please reenable the cache page after you have maintained your cache. To reenable the cache, go to the cache from your Account page on GC.com. Under "Admin Tools" in the upper right-hand corner, click "Enable," write your note and click "Submit log entry."

Groundspeak acknowledges that COVID-19 restrictions may preclude timely cache maintenance, so as long as a Cache Owner provides periodic updates via "Note Logs" written to the cache page, the cache will not get archived.

I hope 2021 was happy, healthy, and safe for you and yours.

Regards,

Geocache Description:

Venture about 0.6 mile into Goldstream Valley and visit two types of "Crossing Zones." The Ladybug Kids spend several hours per day reading books of all kinds. Bookcrossing looks like a fun way to pass on good books rather than leaving them on a shelf to collect dust. The cache location is definitely easier to access in the winter, but water proof footwear will take you there just fine when the ground is not frozen or snow covered.

This cache is a "Crossing Zone" or place where Bookcrossing books can be exchanged. The cache was inspired by Scobey's and Geminigirl's "Anchorage Crossing Zone Cache" and Bilder's "Coastal Trail Book Exchange."

Bookcrossing is a concept similar to geocaching's travel bugs and Where's George?'s currency tracking, only in this case books are released into to the wild. Books are tracked at the Bookcrossing Website.

Bookcrossing is easy! Just follow the "3 Rs"...

1. Read a good book (you already know how to do that).
2. Register it at Bookcrossing.com (along with your journal comments), get a unique BCID (BookCrossing ID number), and label the first book page.
3. Release it for someone else to read (put it in this cache, give it to a friend, leave it on a park bench, donate it to charity, "forget" it in a coffee shop, etc.).

Please take a book and replace it with another that you have registered at Bookcrossing.com. Like a TB, your book needs to be logged into the cache which is done at Bookcrossing.com with "release notes." When you take a book, make a "journal entry" that you have it. Then when you are done with the book, whether you've read it or not, make release notes for it. Please enter LadybugKids as the referrer when you register as a new user at the Bookcrossing website.

Look at the books currently in the cache. Feel free to release a book you've taken from the cache at one of these other Crossing Zones in Alaska or establish a new one in the Interior.

If you have a question, email me.

The cache also has room for small trade items which are also welcome.

Click here for a map of the east Goldstream trails that lead to this cache.  You are encouraged to tour more of the trails if time or future visits permit.  If you are approached by a dog team, step or ride off to the side of the trail and stand quietly to let the team go by.  Dog teams can travel at more than 20 mph and are nearly silent, so be always vigilant when on the trails during the winter.  Keep you dog(s)s leashed because loose dogs pose a hazard to dog teams or they might find the scent from one of the nearby active trap lines irresistible. Add a star to the difficulty if you try this cache in the summertime due to mosquitoes and wet terrain.

Please replace the cache and camo as you found them to preserve the cache for future cachers!
