FIS mistrovství sveta v klasickém lyžování se svým rozsahem a významem radí k nejvetším svetovým sportovním událostem. V termínu od 18. února do 1. brezna 2009 se bude v Liberci rozdelovat dvacet sad medailí ve trech soutežních disciplinách – behu na lyžích, skoku na lyžích a severské kombinaci. Ctyri základní místa, kde se bude šampionát odehrávat jsou Rekreacní a sportovní areál Vesec, Sportovní areál Ješted, multifunkcní hala Tipsport Arena a historické centrum mesta s námestím Dr. Edvarda Beneše. V nove vznikajícím sportovním areálu ve Vesci se uskutecní bežecké discipliny šampionátu, zatímco Sportovní areál Ješted se stane dejištem skokanských souteží. Multifunkcní Tipsport arena poskytne zázemí organizacnímu výboru i médiím a námestí Dr. Edvarda Beneše se promení v místo slavnostních ceremoniálu.

FIS World Ski Championship belongs with its extend and importance to the biggest world sport events. From 18. February to 1. March, twenty sets of medals will be given in Liberec to sportsmen in three disciplines – Cross-Country, Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined. There are four main areas in the organization of the Championship – the Resort and Sports Facility Vesec, Sports Facility Ješted, Multiple-function Sports Hall Tipsport Arena and the historic town center of Liberec with Dr. Edvard Beneš Square. Cross-country disciplines will take place in Vesec, ski jumps in Ješted, the Sports Hall Tipsport Arena should create technical background for the steering committee and media and the ceremony will be organized at Dr. Edvard Beneš Square.

FIS Ski-Weltmeisterschaft gehört mit ihrem Umfang und Bedeutung zu den größten Sportereignissen der Welt. Im Termin von 18. Februar bis 1. März 2009 werden in Liberec zwanzig Medaillensätze in drei Disziplinen verteilt – Langlauf, Schispringen und Nordische Kombination. Zu den vier Grundlokalitäten, wo sich die Meisterschaft abspielen wird, gehören das Erholungs- und Sportareal Vesec, Sportareal Ješted, multifunktionale Sporthalle Tipsport Arena und historisches Stadtzentrum mit Dr. Edvard Beneš Platz. In dem neuen Sportareal Vesec finden Langalufdisziplinen statt, im Sportareal Ješted werden Skisprungwettbewerbe organisiert. Tipsport Arena soll dem Organisationsausschuss und Medien dienen und der Beneš Platz wird zum Zentrum der feierlichen Zeremonien.
