The Event
Due to a large wedding taking place on
Rathlin Island there won’t be any b&b available for this
event
So I’ve made some changes as follow’s
Saturday Morning
We’ll meet at Ballycastle Marina at 08:30 on September 15th and
take a fast rib boat to Rathlin Island.(This will cost
Approximately £15 per person)a deposit has already been paid the
boat can carry a maximum of 30 people.
On landing we will either take a walk / cycle tour of the Island. It
would be advisable to bring a packed lunch as we expect to be on
the Island for around six hours.
Saturday Evening
Marina Hotel
We can use the a la Carte menu.the average
price is £22 for starter, main and dessert) there's a fabulous
selection including scallops, garlic mushrooms, crab claws, Caesar
salad, soup d' jour, and smoked salmon for starters. Mains include
supreme of chicken, lamb chops, pork chops, monkfish, salmon
Patrice, sea bass, cod, sirloin steak, fillet steak or T bone steak
and the vegetarian lasagna.
There's various desserts and coffee etc.
We can get copies of the full menu and forms for pre-ordering so
there's very little hanging about once we get there - basically get
in, get fed and get the craic going.
The hotel doesn’t serve food between 5:30 pm
and 6:00 pm just to give themselves time to clear and set up tables
etc. Any time after 6:00 pm is fine.
The hotel will either open the foyer bar for
us, which is close to the Library Room, or provide us with free
waitress service from the main bar so we're not running backwards
and forwards all night. It looks like a perfect choice for a
venue.
The Meal has been booked for 19:30
A booking has also been made on the Library Room.
Room rates:
Fintan can drop the price of a double to £90 and can do a single
room for £60.
Unfortunately, because it's a hotel chain, he can't improve on that
price
For those not wanting to stay in The Marina Hotle there is a
list of B&B’s for Ballycastle it can be seen at Ballycastle Accommodation
Camping
So far I have found Ballyness
Caravan Park and Silvercliffs
Sunday
Possibly a trip to see the Giants Causeway depending on demand
or a tour of the Antrim Coast
All are welcome to attend both new and seasoned cachers
alike
The Island
Rathlin Island sits off the north coast of Ireland, it’s closest
Point is approx. 2.25 miles from Fair Head. It is also the closest
Point to Scotland and is 11 miles from the Mull of Kintyre . It is
Roughly ten miles in length and covers a total area of 3500 acres.
Because of the closeness to Scotland it has often been at the
Centre of many an argument over ownership. It was finally settled
In 1617 by a simple test that had also been applied to the Isle of
Man, if a snake or other poisonous serpent could survive on the
Island it was taken as being part of the mainland. If it died then
Ireland was the owner; Ireland finally was declared the true
owner.
