Geocache Description:

You're looking for a micro cache located near Waverly Lake.

There is no swimming at this lake now (and there probably never was), but a long, long time ago – when I was a lot younger – a bunch of us kids used to come to the lake and swim to this point from the dam, then swim back (yeah, we did a lot of dumb things when we were kids). This area was just called "the point" back then. This cache was kind of an after-thought hide. I was walking through the wooded areas and enjoying a crisp fall day and the beautiful scenery, and I got to this area and thought it offered a pretty view of the lake. I decided to try to lure others here to enjoy the same view by placing a cache. I tried to make it a little hard to find to keep you there to enjoy the view a little longer.

You'll be looking for a camo-wrapped waterproof match container that has just a log and a stub of a pencil. There is parking about 150 to 200 feet from the cache. This cache is located pretty close to one of the lake's primitive camping areas so it might be a little harder to do during the warmer months if the campsite is in use. But just act like you're birding or hiking around the lake and you can go there.

This cache is one of 13 "easy to somewhat difficult" caches located at Waverly Lake. A dozen plus one caches of all shapes, sizes and descriptions in one location should make it worth the price of the gasoline it will take to get here, and provide cachers with a half-day of geocaching fun (okay, just a couple of hours for you veteran cachers). There's also a cache in Waverly's city park, making your drive even more worthwhile.

The Waverly Lake area is very scenic. The 165-acre lake is surrounded by several hundred acres of rolling hills that includes rough trails, picnic and free primitive camping areas, shoreline fishing areas and primitive rest rooms. Owned by the city of Waverly, the area doesn't get a lot of use, so come and find the caches and enjoy the scenery found in this great outdoor recreation facility.

THE "BAKERS DOZEN" CHALLENGE: I'm not giving any "First to Find" prizes for single caches, but I'll give a nice one to the first geocacher who finds all 13 of the Waverly Lake caches. Two of the caches—Morgan County Treasure and One Degree of Separation—are already there, and you might already have logged them. If so, you're already ahead of the game. Once you have all the caches, send me an email letting me know you've completed the challenge. Include the date and time you completed this quest and tell me where you live (just the city). I'll check to make sure you've completed the challenge and then take the prize to somewhere close to you and email you the coordinates of where you can go to pick up the gift.

If you enjoy caching as much as I do, I would recommend you spend a few dollars to enhance this activity. If you're not already, become a premium member at www.geocaching.com. If you’re from central Illinois, consider joining the Central Illinois Geocaching Association too. You can get more information at www.cigacache.org.
