Sandford's Strawberry Special
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This 1 mile circular walk includes muddy footpaths, steps and
stiles (these can be avoided if you go back to the cross-roads at
the end of each section).
Sandford Station was built in 1870 by the Bristol and Exeter Railway and was the largest station on the Strawberry Line due to the transportation of stone from the nearby quarry. Until recently, the site was occupied by Sandford Stone but in 2010 it was converted into a Retirement Complex by The St Monicas Trust. The goods shed and station master's house are all grade 2 listed buildings and there is a museum in the old Station Building. Co-ordinates are for The Railway Inn where parking permission has been granted; real ale and good home-cooked food (call Judy or Paul on 01934 822362).
