A peaceful little resting place overlooking the Suquamish Harbor and the Hood Canal. Located in the community of Shine, Jefferson County, just west of the Hood Canal Bridge. This cemetery was established in 1901 by Philip Nash Rasler, who is the only Civil War veteran buried there.

Rasler was born in Ohio in 1840, but later moved to Indiana where he married Melissa Jane Slyter on July 23, 1860. He served in the Union Army from 1861-1864. In May of 1878, the Raslers, along with their 6 children, headed West. They eventually ended up in Washington, where Philip Rasler worked as a logger and a farmer. The Raslers donated the cemetery property to the community of Shine in 1901 and Philip Rasler was buried there in 1904. Melissa Jane Slyter Rasler joined him in April, 1916.

This cache is a Micro, in the form of a screw-top plastic waterproof pill bottle with a log book inside. Please bring your own writing instrument.

PLEASE REMEMBER that a cemetery is a sacred place. Treat it accordingly and leave no trace of your visit. Thanks!!

CONGRATS to kinderhoff for being the FTF!!!!!!!!!!!

2/29/08: New landscaping forced us to move the cache about 12 feet away from it's original location. Waypoints were adjusted accordingly. The container is now a small pill bottle and there's a new log book in it. Happy Caching!
