Geocache Description:

There is no cache at the above coordinates. They are the first of three stops you'll have to make in order to calculate the end cache coordinates.

Fairmount Park is a 50 acre multi-purpose facility in the Town of Wheatfield, located at the corner of Nash and Steig Roads. Here you will find ball fields, tennis courts, man-made pond, man-made sled hill, running track, basketball courts, street hockey, picnic shelters, just about anything you could ask for in a town park. I had another cache there, but the attachment method on the final kept failing. This is obviously a totally different cache.

Before this was Fairmount Park, it was Fairmount Cemetery. There are many fenced-off graves scattered amongst playground equipment in the far east end of the park.

I can't find any information about Fairmount Cemetery on the web, other than that it was "incorporated" in 1894. I also have no information on when it became a Town Park. If you click on the Topozone Topographic map link on this page, you'll see the area is still identified as "Fairmount Cemetery". Parking is not a problem here!! Even if the gates are closed, you'll find ample parking in a lot off of Nash Road, or along Steig Road.

The coordinates for the cache container are in the format:

N 43° 05.ABC

W 078° 52.DEF

  • Burial Plot #1: "Mother" N 42° 05.683 W 078° 52.057 These are the coords at the top of the page, and again, please note there is no cache here. You will find the single grave of a Mother, whose first name begins with "D".
    • E = The number of letters in her last name.

  • Burial Plot #2: "Christie" N 43° 05.710 W 078° 52.077 This is the largest burial plot in the park, with "Christie" being the most predominant headstone.
    • B = The 3rd digit in Henry Heintz's year of birth.
    • F = The 3rd digit in "Minnie, his wife's" year of death.
    • C = The 4th digit in Margaret Christie's year of birth.

  • Burial Plot #3: "Stieg" N 43° 05.745 W 078° 52.134 Note they have a nearby road named after them. Their graves are mostly in German, but you can get the information you need.
    • D = The 4th digit in V.T. Stieg's year of death
    • A = The 3rd digit in V.T. Stieg's year of birth

  • Stop #4: The cache: a small container, wrapped in camo tape, not a micro. Please re-hide as well or better than found.
