Burnham's Woods Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

spygirl42: Very sad to have to archive this geocache. I am sorry Mike. Just with the one stage going missing and the final being destroyed it does not feel like I have much of a choice anymore.

Such a sad day

Geocache Description:

This cache is now maintained by Spygirl42, in memory of Mickey100 The park closes at 10 pm; search takes less than 1 hour; child friendly; parking available, dogs allowed, winter friendly, bike friendly, no poisonous plants, night friendly.

The last re-direct and the cache have been moved to a location outside the park.
Print out a new page please.
Park at N44°17.83 W78°16.26
In the winter, park in the lane to the gate, leaving room for other cars to come and go, or park on the shoulder of the highway #7.
This is a small, beautiful, mainly hardwood forest containing some very old large trees.
I once saw a Snowy Owl in this park in the winter, when food supplies were low, way up north.
This park is used ALL YEAR by families and children, and is a favourite of dog-walkers.
There is hardly any wind-chill in this small provincial forest.
There is NO need to look out for poison ivy, at any time, while completing any part of this search.

You will need your COMPASS and your GPSr.
The lovely walk in this park will be on the trails, locating the first 3 re-directs.
Then, go back to your vehicle, and DRIVE to the last re-direct and the cache.

First:
Make your way to N 44 deg 17.971 min. W 78 deg 16.042 min.
Here, you will see a three-digit number, abc

Second:
Change the last three digits of the following meaningless N co-ords N 44 deg 18.012 by adding that three-digit number.
So, N 44 deg 18.012 plus .abc becomes N 44 deg 18.def

Then, change the last three digits of the following meaningless W co-ords W78 deg 16.abc by subtracting .017 So W78 deg 16.abc minus .017 = W78 deg 16.ghj
Please go to N 44 deg 18.def W78 deg 16.ghj

Second:
Here you will find a four-digit number in black marker, in the format mn pq.
mn is the magnetic compass bearing and pq is the distance in meters.
Please go there. There you will find a three-digit number, rst

Third:
Change the last three digits of the following meaningless N co-ords
N 44 deg 17.rst plus .622 = N 44 deg 17.uvw Change the last three digits of the following meaningless W co-ords
W 78 deg 16.rst plus .740 = W 78 deg 16.xyz

Now, please return to your vehicle, and DRIVE, and park NEAR the co-ords. Walk up the bank and stand right at the co-ords.

Fourth:
Take out your compass. The one litre container is located on a bearing of 101 deg. M., and 12 meters away, in the forest.
(There is a European buckthorn and a row of cedars blocking access to the forest, but a few meters to the left, you can work your way into this forest.)
