Welcome to the Enseleni Nature reserve, The gateway to Zululand. Established in 1948, this reserve extends over an area of 293 ha. Enseleni derives its name from the nseleni river, which forms the eastern boundry of the reserve.
The reserve is of great intrest to outdoor enthusiasts for a number of reasons. Being centrally located between Zulluland’s to major centers, namely Richards Bay and Empangeni, makes it popular for a day’s outing or a convenient stopping point for inland visitors wishing to take a break from the long trip northwards or southwards.
Prior to proclamation, the area was Crown land and was utilized by local farmers for cattle grazing.
Part 2 of this series is for the relatively fit person. A Lovely walk would take you through this beautiful Nature reserve where you are bound to see some wildlife grazing upon your path. Be warned to please take some water, a hat, and no watch with, to fully enjoy the walking trail. Zulluland is known for its high heat and humidity and the wrong time of day could be very unpleasant. The cache is situated approx 680 meters from the parking area as the crow flies but then again we all know that on foot it’s a different story.
