A short seaside walk near a memorial for a well loved author, past a hidden church to a small beach.
Gavin Maxwell was brought up in this area and loved it very much. His first book about otters was "Ring of Bright Water". Although this book was not set in Galloway his memorial is, and this is very close to where you will be hunting so take some time to look at the monument and views.
Don't park near the given coordinates, but carry on past the golf course and stop near the sea beyond the wee hillock. Bring a picnic if it's sunny, the beach here is lovely.
You will pass a small "church" which isn't actually a church but is the ancestral burial vault of the Maxwell family.( The actual church lies in ruins beside it.) Have a look at the wonderful relief carvings around the door and the very unusual roof slates.
