Geocache Description:

This cache is located along Heald Stream in Moose River. It is a short distance from the old narrow-gauge railroad bed. Access by car or, in winter, skis or snowmobile. Should be an easy year round find.

This cache was placed as a first stop for our Diabetes TB to highlight one of our favorite places to run/walk/ski. There are many great "rails to trails" in Maine and across the country. This particular trail isn't an official "rails to trails" project, but the landowners have kept it in good condition and it is a designated snowmobile and 4 wheeler trail.

The narrow-gauge rail that ran here serviced a sawmill that used to stand where the Moose River Campground is now. When you start out the Moose River road (also called the Scott Rd) the campground is on your left, and you can see the big cement base from the old teepee burner used to burn the bark. The railroad bed follows Heald stream for quite a few miles and is a great place to see wildlife so if you have the time take a walk while you're here.

The cache is a medium Loc and Loc container. The original contents were the Diabetes TB (of course), a rally car, a bendy kangaroo, plastic fishing worms (there is a stream here after all), our signature dog treats, and the log book.
